Dr. Jacob Shipton, O.D.

Dr. Jacob Shipton joined Eastgate Optical in January 2024. He began his studies at Brigham Young University getting a B.A in Human Biology, then continued with his optometric education at The Ohio State College of Optometry and graduated in 2021.

He treated a wide range of patients in the Columbus, Ohio area by most recently finishing his rotation at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. There, he worked very closely with some of the best surgeons in the area treating and managing patients with diseases/conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, cataracts to name a few.

Dr. Shipton has fit a wide range of specialty contacts including corneal gas permeable lenses, scleral lenses, astigmatic lenses, and soft multifocal lenses. At the specialty contact lens clinic at OSU and at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates, Dr. Shipton has had experience in fitting children in soft and hard lenses to help slow the progression of near-sightedness known as myopia control, a new hot topic in the optometric community.

He continues to try and give the best optometric care to his patients by staying up to date with the latest technology by being a member of the American Optometric Association and the Idaho Optometric Physicians Association. He also won the 2021 Rick Bay Innovation Scholarship offered to OSU optometry students by continuing to be innovative in the optometric space.

Dr. Shipton has been practicing eyecare to his patients in Nampa with an emphasis in medical optometry since 2021.

Dr. Shipton and his wife Kelsey are both from Idaho, and together they have two children, Harper and Ezra. With his family, he likes to get outside by going to the park and playing sports. Some of his personal eclectic hobbies include; disc golfing, wood/metal working, podcast listening and exercising.

Dr. Todd Winbigler, OD

Born and raised in the Treasure Valley, Dr. Winbigler suffered from significant nearsightedness in his early childhood. Dr. Winbigler played basketball, football and baseball as a young man. His first experience with contact lenses opened a whole new world for him. He took a great interest in his visits to his own eye doctor, and was so pleased to be able to see during his sports events without eyeglasses.

After a tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Winbigler decided to pursue a career in Optometry, hoping to give others the same experience in vision that he had had as a young person. Dr. Winbigler earn a B.S. in Zoology from the College of Idaho and a Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry.

Dr. Winbigler has an emphasis in Contact Lens Science, all aspects of Refractive Surgery and it's applications and Functional Vision.Dr. Winbigler also treats minor emergencies including foreign body removal, infections and trauma of the eye, as well as pre & post operative care for refractive and other surgeries.

Dr. Winbigler is the first doctor in the Treasure Valley to fit and prescribe Corneal Refractive Therapy, and did the clinical trials in our region for the Johnson & Johnson lenses Acuvue Advance and Acuvue Oasys. Dr. Winbigler specialized in hard to fit contact lenses and custom fits lenses for patients suffering from keratoconus.

Angela

Angela was raised in the Northwest and settled in Idaho. She began her interest in Optometry 24 years ago, beginning as a receptionist at a Nampa eye clinic.
Angela is now the Office Manager for Eastgate Optical and has helped grow the practice for the last 18 years.

“Providing outstanding eye care and service is priority one. Learning from your mistakes, fixing issues and putting in place systems to avoid those mistake in the future is extremely important. Every day is an opportunity to do things better, faster and more efficiently.
This is sometimes hard and a slow go, but the benefits of getting it right are an excellent reward in itself. Happy patients equal a strong, long term practice, which in turn makes you excited to go to work.”

Angel

Angel grew up in Southern California and made the move to Boise in 2008. She earned her certificate as an Optometric Assistant from Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO).
She has been in private optometric practice since 1999. During that time, she also had the opportunity to explore refractive surgery as a LASIK consultant and technician.

Afton

Afton, a native Idahoan, has been with Eastgate Optical since 2015. She is a skilled and detailed optician. But that's not all! Afton is cross trained in many areas of the practice and is knowledgeable in the billing of all insurance claims.
Afton enjoys wake surfing, camping and travel.  "I like making people feel happy and confident and try to make their experience here remarkable"

Theresa

Relatively new to Boise, Theresa is a native of the East Coast. Like so many of our patients, she has been wearing glasses and contacts for most of her life.
She has been in the eye care business for almost ten years, with experience in specialty contact lenses as well as glasses. She obtained her ABO certification in 2012.

Trina

Trina was born and raised in the Treasure Valley. In her younger years she was raised on a farm in the Caldwell area and was very involved in 4-H and FFA.
After high school she landed a receptionist position for an Optometrist in Boise which then led her to Dr. Winbigler’s office where she started her journey to being an Optician in 1992.

In the early days of her employment Dr. Winbigler had 2 offices in which he split his time working. As the years past she grew her knowledge and studied for her American Board of Opticianry (ABO) license, and became a certified Optician.
She has been a loyal outstanding employee of Eastgate Optical for over 20 years.

“When I first started working at Eastgate Optical I had applied for a job. After working with Dr. Winbigler and being at Eastgate Optical for over 20 years as a certified Optician, I have realized that I have a career.

Tina

Tina was born and raised in Boise.  She joined our Eastgate Optical team in June of 2014 working as our front office receptionist, after working in the dental field for thirteen years as a patient coordinator/receptionist and dental assistant.
Tina has enjoyed learning about the many aspects of the Optometry field. Providing outstanding customer services is something she strives to do everyday.
